My Failure to Success Story
This is the story of my personal transformation from failure to success. Throughout my educational journey, I faced challenges and struggled to perform well in school. Negative feedback during my academic years made me feel discouraged and helpless. Despite unwavering family support, I remained the poster child for ADHD, which made everything extremely difficult. As a result, my confidence was low, and I felt scared, guilty, dumb, and depressed.
After years of grinding through all this, I eventually graduated with a BA in Economics; I entered the workforce and hit a new all-time low. But one day, I found a greeting card in a NYC subway station with a quote that inspired me to begin a new journey. The quote read: "Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On!' has solved and always will solve the problems
of the human race." ― Calvin Coolidge.
The quote sparked a fire within me, and I began creating tools to help overcome the obstacles holding me back my entire life. I then quickly walked back to my office and made a new screensaver with the words patience, persistence, and perseverance that flashed on my screen to remind me of my mission. Realizing this was helpful, I started digging into other things I could do to help myself the next time I encountered obstacles. I questioned everything about myself and challenged every negative core belief I had. I defined if they were true and then found new ways of thinking about myself and what I could do to build a bridge over my obstacles.
This new way of thinking and doing worked, and my work eventually evolved into a prosperous 27-year career as a professional energy trader. It was a testament to the power of self-belief and determination.
Fast-forward to age 49. I left my career to focus on my family and help my loved ones struggling with ADHD. I enrolled in a comprehensive ADHD life coaching program and earned a certification. Halfway into the program, I had the most significant ah-ha moment. I recognized that the material contained what I did to help myself over a quarter of a century ago. This created a sense of validation that my actions were responsible for my eventual success back then, and I could help my loved ones and others facing similar challenges.
To make a long story short, I started my company in 2022, My ADHD Coach of The Woodlands, to fulfill my desire to contribute to a better life for others. Building these skills works, and you should never give up.
Sincerely,
Coach Mike.
